Job Responsibilities

• Analyze eyeglasses or contact lenses by measuring eye curvature, pupillary distance and bridge width using optical devices
• Obtain specifications from ophthalmologist or optometrist prescriptions
• Supervise or manage activities of other opticians or student opticians
• Assist clients in selecting eyeglasses and advise on use and care of contact lenses
• Arrange for grinding or polishing of lenses or grind and polish lenses
• Cut and edge lenses, fit them into frames, and adjust finished eyeglasses

Requirements

• College or CEGEP education
• Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities
• 2 years to less than 3 years of experience
• Criminal record check
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure with attention to detail and manual dexterity
• English language proficiency
